Meole Brace, Shrewsbury, Holy Trinity

8 bells, tenor 7-1-7 in Bb                                                                                                               SJ 486106

Treble and 2: Whitechapel Bell Foundry 1971
3, 4 and Tenor: Whitechapel Bell Foundry 1969
5, 6 and 7: Mears and Stainbank, Whitechapel 1870

The three oldest bells were donated in 1870 and were intended as the front three of a ring of six, the frame for which was installed at the time. This finally took place in modified form in 1969, when the three bells were retuned and three additional ones added. The octave was completed two years later. The bells 'go' very well, but some ringers might find the lighter bells a little 'flighty.'

Access to the well-appointed ringing room is via a narrow wooden spiral staircase from the base of the tower. The church has a toilet and parking is usually available around the building.

The service sheet from the 1969 dedication. Its distressed condition is due to its having been buried in a time capsule from 1969 - 2000.

Two details of the facsimile inscription on the third.  M & S took a 1641 William Clibury bell in part payment for the 1870 ring of three and the inscription was preserved by William Kimber, their head moulder. They reproduced the inscription when they augmented the peal in 1969.
